ALPP Certification Verification
The Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification recognizes a lactation counseling professional. It should be stressed that those practitioners have exhibited the abilities, understanding, and attitudes required to offer clinical breastfeeding counseling and management assistance to families. It supports those families, who are considering breastfeeding or who have questions or problems while breastfeeding/lactation.
CLCs promote, defend, and encourage breastfeeding and human lactation in order to prevent and alleviate breastfeeding issues. They understand that breastfeeding is most effective when it is a cultural practice and the lactation support and services professional is culturally aware.
CLCs include mothers, peer counselors, educators, nurses, birthing instructors, doulas, nutritionists, dietitians, midwives, physicians, social workers, public health experts, government administrators, and many others. CLCs are employed in obstetric and pediatric practices, hospitals, public health programs, and private practices.
Further, CLCs operate within a counseling model, acknowledging that breastfeeding decisions are chosen by the mother, who may have beliefs and goals that differ from those of the counselor. CLCs function as members of the healthcare team, guaranteeing proper referrals and recommendations.

ALPP Recertification CLC
Because scientific and social knowledge about breastfeeding and human lactation is always evolving, it must complete a minimum of 18 hours of continuing education in the area of breastfeeding and human lactation every three years.
It will accept up to three (3) CERPs/CEUs/Contact hours related to social justice, racial justice, racial disparities, and discrimination, bias, or prejudice in the healthcare business.
These hours do not have to be explicitly tied to nursing or lactation, although they can be. These three (3) hours are not required as part of the CLC recertification criteria.
Evidence-based breastfeeding practice necessitates ongoing reading, review, and consultation with experts. Healthcare practitioners should take advantage of all opportunities for continuous education and professional development.
Certificants who fail to submit enough documentation of 18+ hours of suitable continuing education will not have their certificates renewed.
